ImPACT test is approved for student-athletes ages 12 and up and is best used when a baseline has been obtained prior to an injury for comparison. Even though the test is approved for 12 year olds the use of the baseline test, as a comparison to post-injury assessment, is not always reliable. This is because the brain at this age is developing rapidly and the period of time between baseline and post injury may be such that the child has grown and matured cognitively so that the baseline is no longer reliable for comparison. In the event that your child’s baseline is not appropriate for use post injury, different forms of neuro-cognitive testing may be used or we may use ImPACT and compare your child’s post-injury score to normative data.     Each baseline ImPACT test is reviewed by our certified ImPACT consultant, Dr. Ellen Fahey, for validity. If it is determined that your child's test is invalid, you will be notified by phone to discuss the findings.
