Reshmi Mukherjee, a professor of physics and astronomy at Barnard College, Columbia University, will outline the scientific motivation for very-high-energy gamma-ray astronomy, describe the techniques involved, and survey the astrophysics of the extreme universe as revealed by gamma ray observations.
