Take two and tweet me in the morning?Social Media and Healthcare Social media is fundamentally changing the way consumers and businesses interact and and healthcare is no exception. Even with privacy concerns, a full one-third of U.S. consumers are using YouTube, Facebook and Twitter to find medical information, research and share their symptoms, and offer opinions about doctors, treatments, drugs, and health plans. From connecting with at-risk populations to changing the speed and quality of interaction between patients and healthcare organizations, social media is rapidly becoming an effective tool for practitioners and communicators. Our next social media breakfast will focus on how social media is being deployed in health care in Connecticut, across the country and the world. Among our experienced panelists are:  Heang Tan is the project director and editor for Health Justice CT. Previous to joining this initiative, she worked at Khmer Health Advocates (KHA), where she managed a CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) funded, national diabetes project and had extensive front line experience as a community health worker. Heang is a member of several professional associations, and has received awards and national recognitions for her leadership and community service. Heang tweets at @heangtan.Aldon Hynes has worked as a blogger and freelance writer covering topics that too often get ignored, particularly in terms of local news.  He was one of the first bloggers to be credentialed to cover a national political convention at the 2004 Democratic National Convention as well as various state and local political conventions. As the social media manager at the Community Health Center, Hynes promotes events and causes that tell stories of improving health outcomes for underserved populations.  He has participated in and helped organize many online discussions and has spoken at numerous conferences on the use of social media in health care.
