Local and National Talent to Perform at Norwich Freedom Bell Casting
June 15, 2012
5 PM to 8-30 PM
Howard T. Brown Park in Norwich, Conn.
Local and nationally known performers to celebrate casting of the nation’s first Emancipation Proclamation Bell June 15 in Norwich, Connecticut.
As thousands watch glowing molten bronze being poured into the mold for The Norwich Freedom Bell, they’ll enjoy the provocative stories and inspiring music of home grown performers and nationally acclaimed artists. Craig Edwards, Jim Harkins, The Rose City Chorus, Tom Callinan, and headliner, Magpie for the Spirit will complement the historic event from a cross section of musical genres. The evening program kicks off at 5 PM, outdoors at Howard T. Brown Park on the Norwich water front, and is free to the public.
“We are honored to have such gifted and articulate artists come to Norwich to help us celebrate the freedom so many have given so much to preserve”, said Mayor Peter Nystrom.
Craig Edwards of Mystic, CT. brings music he designed for Mystic Seaport’s recent exhibit on African-American sailors, “Black Hands, Blue Seas”, as well as songs about the Freedom Schooner Amistad he will perform as the great ship stand one hundred yards away in Norwich Harbor.
